*Teachers will answer: What shocked you the most today?
Rationale
The reason in which we choose to do Common core, with the smarter balance test, is due to the fact that Michigan is heading in the direction of the new way of teaching with the common core standards. For IEP, teachers no longer use the HUSKY's for goals and objectives, special education teachers have to connect them to the common core standards. The reason my group choose this was because staff need to have better understand of what the students are going to be asked today, and the more we put off learning, the worse off the students will be,when teachers are told they have to follow common core. We choose both positives and negatives of the common core standards so that one would be able to see where the "weaker" areas are, and make them more interesting for students. Common Core and the Smarter Balance test, seem impossible but we see if as the next challenge that we need to start truly thinking about. We connected it to math, because, the majority of the time, high school special education teachers have to write Math goals and objectives for their students. But more than that, math has components of all other academic areas, so the other general education teachers could take away strategies away from this PD session.
