Goals & Objectives for Professional Development Program
Goals:
Objectives for Each Program:
Session #1: Teachers will be able to acknowledge learning disabilities in students in their classrooms, and understand the affect they have on mathematics instruction. Teachers will demonstrate their understanding through group discussion and through asking an informative question about the difficulties their students have in math class due to their disabilities.
Session #2: Teachers will be able to gain knowledge about common core, and be able to interact with the new standards, test and criteria to better understand how the common core will effect lesson planning in the future. Teachers will be assessed on the knowledge they have gained, but taking a survey, small group/ large group discussion, and sharing out as a whole group.
Session #3: Teachers will be able to gain information about UDL, and Assistive technology. They will interact with mathematical curriculum by analyzing how well a particular math lesson coincides with the UDL self check. Also be able to decipher between different assistive technology, and how they can incorporate this AT into their math classes during academic instruction. Teachers will be assessed on the information gained through this session by the UDL self check, and by telling us, what particular device each teacher is going to incorporate into the next lesson taught.
Session #4: Teachers will be able to recognize and identify different ways to collaborate as teachers and have tools and ideas to implement this collaboration into their everyday planning. They will also identify collaboration practices between students and understand the advantages. Teachers will demonstrate their understanding through whole-group and small group discussion.
Session #5: Teachers will be able to explain the difference between modifications and accommodations and understand how they must be followed within a student's IEP. They will be able to use recognize and choose specific and different modifications and accommodations based on a student's need. Teachers will demonstrate understanding by accommodating and/or modifying lessons within their curriculum to fit the needs of specific students and be able to justify their reasoning.
Session #6: Teachers will gain knowledge on the different aspect of math workshop. They will then create a math lesson according to the criteria for the check for understanding within the math curriculum.
- One will be able to understand more clearly how a mild disabled students mind works in the content area of math.
- One will gain knowledge of strategies to help students in mathematics across 6 through 12 grade.
- Teachers will be given research based articles that will help them be able to implement strategies into the mathematical classroom.
- Teachers will be shown ways in which to target help on assessments to do better on national and state assessments.
